Du Bois Freedom Center Awarded FY26 Operating Grant from Mass Cultural Council
September 5, 2025 — Great Barrington, MA
The W. E. B. Du Bois Center for Freedom and Democracy is honored to announce that we have been awarded an FY26 Operating Grant for Organizations from the Mass Cultural Council.
This investment will directly support our mission to preserve and activate the legacy of W. E. B. Du Bois by transforming the historic Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church into a cultural and educational center—a space dedicated to freedom, dialogue, and community engagement.
“We are deeply grateful to the Mass Cultural Council for their recognition and support,” said Dr. John D. Lloyd, Interim Executive Director of the Du Bois Freedom Center. “Their investment strengthens our ability to advance Du Bois’s enduring call to justice, equity, and democracy, while creating a vibrant hub for education and cultural programming here in Great Barrington and beyond.”
Thanks to vigorous advocacy from the cultural sector, and the strong support of the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Massachusetts State Legislature, the Mass Cultural Council is able to continue investing in the Commonwealth’s dynamic artists, cultural organizations, and creative communities.
This award marks an important milestone in the Du Bois Freedom Center’s ongoing development and restoration efforts.
